Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our in-browser image tools, compression algorithms, privacy, and limits.

How does 100% client-side image conversion work?
PicMorph uses HTML5 Canvas, FileReader, and native Web APIs to decode, process, and encode image files directly inside your browser's local memory. Because your device's CPU and GPU execute all pixel math, conversions happen instantaneously without transmitting a single byte over the network.
What image file formats are supported?
We support conversions across PNG, JPEG/JPG, modern WebP, and SVG vector graphics. Specific tools include PNG to JPG (with custom background fill for transparency), JPG to PNG (lossless pixel preservation), JPG to WebP (ultra-compact web delivery), PNG to WebP (full alpha channel preservation), WebP to JPG, SVG to PNG (custom-resolution rasterization), PNG to SVG (raster-to-vector path contour tracing), and the Smart Image Compressor.
Are my images or confidential files ever uploaded to your servers?
Never. PicMorph is built on a strict zero-upload architecture. Your graphics never touch our servers, remote cloud storage buckets, or third-party AI pipelines. All file buffers exist temporarily in your local device RAM and are cleared as soon as you download the file or close the tab.
What are the recommended file size and dimension limits?
We recommend input images up to 8 MB and resolutions up to 2048px on the longest dimension. Because processing runs entirely in your local browser tab, these parameters prevent mobile browser memory throttling and ensure rapid, buttery-smooth conversions on all devices.
Will converting or compressing reduce the visual quality of my images?
When converting to lossy formats like JPG or WebP, you have granular control via the compression quality slider (default 90% for visually lossless output). When converting to lossless PNG or rasterizing vector SVG graphics, full pixel fidelity is 100% preserved.
How does the Smart Image Compressor achieve up to 80% size reduction?
The compressor strips bloated EXIF metadata, camera tags, and GPS coordinates while applying perceptual entropy quantization and chroma subsampling. This drastically reduces file size while retaining razor-sharp visual clarity on high-DPI retina displays.
Is PicMorph free for commercial projects and client work?
Yes! PicMorph is 100% free for personal, educational, and commercial usage. You retain 100% intellectual property ownership and copyright of all graphics, photographs, and vector shapes created or converted using our tools.
